Bottom line up front: If you are a game collector or a Batman enthusiast, then this is worth the money.**UPDATE since writing the original review (which can be found at the end of the update)**Since writing this review, I have beaten the game and loved every minute of it. There are definitely some intellectual challenges that I honestly wouldn't have been able to overcome if I hadn't had the game guide (which I highly recommend as well). But, my opinion of the game did not deteriorate at all as the game progressed. It was fun, stimulating, and challenging. Once again, I think it is worth the money.**END OF UPDATE - original review below**Normally, I don't play super hero games, because normally, they stink. But, my wife got me Batman Arkham Asylum for my birthday last year and I ended up loving it. So, I was definitely looking forward to this sequel when I heard about it. The trailers and reviews were not misleading. The introductory screen shots and (showing the companies that produced/designed the game - i.e. WB, Rocksteady) impressed me. The main menus are also eye candy. As far as gameplay, it feels more or less the exact same as the first game - which is good. The combat system in this game is fun, fluid, and intuitive. But, they did make improvements. Batman has some new moves and takedowns and combos and it isn't any more complicated of a system to utilize. The storyline so far (I haven't beaten yet) is fun and well thought out. Rocksteady did a really good job bringing Batman's reality into our reality. There was a lot of attention to detail with regard to the relationships and backstories of all of the characters. As far as the Collector's Editition packaging and contents: I do not at all regret spending the extra $40 on this at all. I got some cool DLC codes (Batman the Animated Series skin and two Catwoman skins, as well as a downloadable sound track exclusive to the Collector's Edition). The statue is really good quality and looks good on my shelf with my other game collectibles. I do want to mirror the only complaint I've seen about this edition of the game so far and that is that the game disc is in the back of the art book. I do wish the game disc had an actual XBox 360 game case. But, this is honestly a minor complaint in my book.I played Arkham Asylum and loved it. I hated the challenges though, however in AA they were about on par as far as time of playing the game through the story mode. However AC seems like they spent far too much time playing around with challenges to really get too deep into the story as much as they did in AA. The Catwoman DLC was fine because she actually had a hand in the story mode, and there were things you could only get done with her, or needed Batman to open up for her. The integration between the 2 characters through the main story was awesome. Loved every minute of it. Riddler Challenges were a pain, but we all knew that from AA right? =), but they were still doable. My main question is: why oh why does Nightwing and Robin (Who if you know anything about the DC universe, are actually...in a round about sort of way...the same person) only have challenges available to them? So not only do you have to play through the challenges with Batman and Catwoman, but now you have to go through the same things with 2 other characters at 560 MS points each? Really? That's the best you could do?? For shame! So upset was I by this that I've lost all interest in continuing playing this title. The Batman series was resurrected and subsequently destroyed in just 2 titles.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!The fact that Mark Hamill said that this would be the final time he would voice Joker, I felt that they should have concentrated on the story line more. The ending of the Identity Theft (To the person who said that it doesn't activate, play around more. I've finished it. I couldn't complete it until after I finished the actual game and was running around getting the remaining Riddler trophies with both Batman and Catwoman) they gave clues to what may transpire in the next title. However I don't know if I will get the title if it's just 75% challenges again. I want more storyline, not more mindless beatings of thugs again. If I wanted that, I'd go back to playing Streets of Rage or Final Fight.Do you like doing the same thing over and over. Do you enjoy mundane tasks. Do you like Batman. If you answered Yes to any of these, then this game is for you. The Riddler Challenges gives you enough stuff to make this game take a very long time. This of course isn't always enjoyable. Overall however it is. When first looking at this game I thought the Cape flying aspects could ruin this altogether for me (Superman 64), however that was not so. The controls and overall fun of the gliding dynamic was super fun and really well done. The Trophies and repetitiveness of the game is why I take away a point. I don't think they could have did it any differently but I don't like little tasks in my game. I actually didn't like any of the God of War games for this very fact. So Please don't let that sway you on this game. It's a Can't miss for Batman fans. The main story arc of the game was bar none one of the best batman story arcs, I never really knew where they were going to take me. The side missions introduced a ton of really fun characters and new introductions to the series. I like the new character models and all of the downloadable content for the game takes this over the top as one of the best of the year. Nightwing and Robin are downloadable characters and lots of skins for Batman himself are available. The collectors edition of the game came with a beautifully rendered Batman Statue, a fantastic art and Game Manuel. The Game box itself is amazing. It also comes with a free DVD of Gotham nights. I already owned this, but if you don't it's a great additional perk to buying the collectors edition. A great collectors edition for a great game.Love this game, so glad I was able to get this collector's edition, now I just need the Arkham Knight to complete my collection.
